My fourth completed game of 2011 is Kinect Adventures from Good Science Studio
Since getting Kinect at launch, I’ve still only got the four games I bought then. I wish that Kinect Sports had come bundled with the sensor, as it’s way more fun than Adventures, but I can’t say that the time spent with this game was totally bereft of enjoyment. With 5 different minigames to choose from, what you end up getting in your “adventures” are a combination of the minigames, in an endless cycle, until you complete the desired objective, be it collect the coins, beat the timer, and so on.
It’s a hell of a lot more fun when you have other people to play with, not just because you’re all jumping about, inadvertently bashing each other and trying your best to work together, but also because players can enter and exit the game at will which saves a lot of worrying about signing profiles in and out, navigating menus and restarting events, or switching control pads on and off (if you’ve held a gaming party before I’m sure you’ll know these woes).
Having enough space is always going to be a talking point with Kinect games, you definitely need it for Adventures as there are a few events which require a lot of dodging and weaving, also, if you’re one of those “mature” gamers, you may want to mind your knees as there’s a lot of ducking and jumping too. If you get Kinect, I’m sure you’ll give this game a whirl, but it doesn’t have lasting appeal, sadly.
One final word – rubber dinghy rapids bro!
